Annoyance is an unpleasant mental state that is characterized by such effects as irritation and distraction from one's conscious thinking.
I get annoyed way too often.
Some major annoyances for me are outside noises (dogs barking, music thumping), bad drivers (you know-the drivers who don't make a right turn until the traffic light turns green), selfish people (the kind that think only about themselves and it shows!).
Some minor annoyances would be my family (dont get me wrong-I love my family!), inconveniences (detours, spills, forgetfulness), a dirty house(which is often!).
I cannot seem to have a day pass without dealing with some type of annoyances.
What about you? What annoys you?
So, how do I deal with annoyances?
~I aknowledge it annoys me! I cant pretend it doesnt! I take a mental note, and then tuck it aside so the annoyance doesnt take control.
~I try to diffuse the annoyance by saying something funny. (That dog must be trying to communicate with entire the neighborhood!)
~I adopted this from my husband, while being annoyed, he says "THANK YOU JESUS." Thanking God in the midst can really help!
~At times, I just have to flat out ignore it. Somethings just dont deserve my time or reaction!
What about you? How do you deal with annoyances?

I teach dance. This might seem strange, but I get annoyed when people don't come to work and I am the "go to" girl. When I don't say "no" the annoying stream flows down to my husband because I will be coming home later that night. I get annoyed at myself because I have a problem with saying NO....even when they really need my help. So then I have the issue of,"Well, I am a Christian and I should be thankful for my job and I want to show them that I am helpful." So annoying. But it comes down to the fact that I feel I deserve better. But in the words of one my respected Church leaders.."we deserve Hell, everything else is a blessing." (He says this to his kids when they are complaining that life is not fair.)
sounds like you've got a bad case of the "normals"
I get annoyed by people who drive slow in the fast lane...so I pass them on the right, change lanes to get back in front of them...then turn on my right turn signal as if to say "move over!"
Another annoyance is people who talk with their mouths full. When I see someone talking with their mouth full, I'll stare at their mouth--then say something like, "Man, is that carrot?"
Ha!
Ohhh Diana, I get annoyed with myself too when I dont say "NO". Maybe, you should have a "protocol answer" when asked to help. Example: Anytime I am asked to help or volunteer to do something, my protocol answer is always "Let me talk with my husband first". It allows me time to think it through. Hope that helps you! THANKS for sharing!
Blueeyedbeliever...yes...its nice to know its just a bad case of the "normals". Its hard being normal!
Tim Glenn,
Thanks for sharing. You know, I admit, at times I do the same thing to slow drivers in the fast lane. Funny, one time I saw on the back windshield of a car a BIG arrow pointing to the right that says "SLOW traffic keep RIGHT" ha!
I also think I talk with my mouth full. I will try to do better at that one! Im not sure what I'd do if I was asked that question mid-chew. :)
I don't deal well with annoyances, unfortunately. However, I read something somewhere that has helped with annoying sounds. Someone suggested being thankful for the gift of hearing to be able hear those annoying sounds. Same goes for garbage on the side of the road, painful sensations, etc. : )
